You may encounter problems with skipping recordings on an Ubuntu install in 8.10.
1.Go to System->Preferences->Sound.
2.On device, choose HDA Intel Alsa Mixer or others whichever works.
3.In Sound Capture, choose HDA Intel Analog Alsa.
4.Try recording again. That's it!
